Czech Jazz Evening
JAZZ ON5

Sunday 06/11/2022 from 18:00

One of the evenings of the Jazz On5 festival will be dedicated to Czech jazz. Five very interesting and already established bands on the Czech scene will perform and each will play an approximately fifty-minute set.

Limbo (jazz – improvising) - experience the unforgiving, untypical and unlimited music of this unbridled quartet that creates a universal musical collage founded on jazz. Improvisation, composition and communication merge in this band that pushes the limits of musical expression and defies trends, going its own way with a clear and penetrating view. Their major inspiration is the legendary Art Ensemble of Chicago. Pavel Hrubý – sax, bcl; Petr Kalfus – sax; Taras Voloshchuk – b; Dušan Černák – dr.

Ondřej Štveráček Quartet (modern jazz) - quartet of the phenomenal saxophonist Ondřej Štveráček, noted for its energy, bravura technique and creative improvisation. The music of this group could be called post-Coltrane bop. Ondřej Štveráček – ts; Jakub Tököly – p; Tomáš Baroš – b; Marek Urbánek – dr.

Jana Koubková Quartet (modern vocal music) - Jana Koubkova is the legendary Czech singer who co-created the form of Czech jazz from the 1970s. Her latest album “A tak si jdu” (and so I go) released by the Supraphon label consists of 12 new tracks, where she weds jazz, scat, blues, chanson, rock and rap. Jana Koubková – voc; Ondřej Kabrna – p; Vítek Švec – bass; Jan Červenka dr.

#B Experiment (contemporary jazz) - unique quintet whose members are among the top musicians on the Czech jazz scene.  The jazz roots of the acoustic trio are joined with electronic elements and hip-hop rhythms, giving rise to an energetic project and a repertoire based mainly in the compositions of all bandmembers of #B Experiment. Miroslav Hloucal – trp; Antonín Dlapa – g; Vít Křišťan – p, rhodes, moog; Peter Korman – b; Marek Urbánek – dr.

František Kop Quartet  (modern jazz – fusion) - Kop’s repertoire emphasizes his own compositions and leads to a greater palette of individual tracks. The range of styles of the original compositions is expansive thanks to the group’s varied musical influences: blues, funk, Latino and free jazz. František Kop – ts; Petr Malásek – p; Martin Lehký – b; Pavel Bady Zbořil – dr.
