Ashley Slater Heptet
ft. Jan Kořínek
Heptet is a new musical project led by Ashley Slater – singer, trombonist, and composer best known as the frontman of the legendary British band Freak Power. Slater is the creative force behind the global hit “Turn On, Tune In, Cop Out”, a track that defined the sound of the 1990s. But he's far more than a one-hit wonder – Slater is a musical visionary who moves effortlessly between jazz, funk, pop, and electronic music, always bringing sharp wit, originality, and bold ideas to the stage.
A key part of Heptet’s sound is Jan Kořínek, one of the Czech Republic’s leading Hammond organ players. His style blends the raw soul and blues traditions with a modern jazz sensibility. His sense of groove, harmonic richness, and deep musicality form the bedrock of the band’s sonic identity. On trumpet is Martin Jůzl, a gifted Czech musician known for his precise tone and melodic sensitivity. Whether he's delivering smooth lyrical lines or fiery solos, his playing always adds emotional depth and flair. Aleksey Svidersky, a saxophonist originally from Ukraine, brings a powerful tone, solid technique, and deep jazz roots. His improvisations are rich, expressive, and full of character. Osian Roberts, a renowned British tenor saxophonist, adds further weight to the lineup. With a strong grounding in the hard bop tradition, Roberts brings a robust, authentic sound shaped by years of experience on both European and American stages. His playing adds depth, sophistication, and timeless soul to the group. Holding it all together is drummer Oliver Lipenský, whose rhythmic drive, subtle dynamics, and intuitive sense of groove give the band its pulse and energy. His drumming is precise yet expressive, making him an essential part of Heptet’s tightly knit sound.
Heptet is not confined by genre. Instead, it thrives on the strength of its personalities, the freedom of improvisation, and the joy of playing together. Their performances are an explosive mix of jazz, funk, soul, and spontaneity – a musical experience that’s both refined and electrifying.
