Baroš/Kyncl Project ft Max Light & Jesse Simpson (CZ/USA)
The Baroš/Kyncl Project represents a unique collaboration between two key figures on the contemporary Czech jazz scene – Tomáš Baroš and Jan Kyncl. Double bassist Tomáš Baroš masterfully combines classical and modern jazz traditions and is one of the most sought-after musicians in Central Europe. During his career, he has performed alongside jazz legends such as Benny Golson, Jerry Bergonzi, Bob Mintzer, Arturo Sandoval, Miroslav Vitouš, and George Mraz. Cross-genre saxophonist Jan Kyncl combines precise technique with natural musicality and openness to new musical worlds. His name is inextricably linked with projects such as Jan Smigmator & Band and the Kristina Barta Quartet, as well as with a number of icons of Czech music, such as Vladimír Mišík and Marie Rottrová. The band was formed in 2025 out of the desire of these two visionaries to create a space for their own original work, which naturally combines tradition with modern jazz expression.
The quartet is complemented by two exceptional American jazz musicians. The guitarist is Max Light, a rising star on the New York scene and a talented musician known to listeners for his collaborations with world-renowned jazz artists such as Christian Sands, Donny McCaslin, Dan Weiss, and others. Jesse Simpson, a Californian drummer and pianist whose playing combines technical precision and pulsating energy, takes his place behind the drums. Jesse has performed alongside legends such as Joe Lovano, Bobby Watson, and John Abercrombie, and brings unmistakable power and drive to the quartet. The band's repertoire consists mainly of original compositions by Baroš and Kyncl, which carry the energy of contemporary jazz, the lyricism of personal expression, and respect for the history of the genre. The ensemble's music is full of vitality, spontaneous improvisation, and mutual understanding between four masters of their craft. The result is a unique musical dialogue that appeals to listeners at home and abroad and confirms that the Baroš/Kyncl Project is a world-class ensemble.
Jan Kyncl – tenor saxophone, Max Light – guitar, Tomáš Baroš – double bass, Jesse Simpson – drums.
