Fanfán Tulipán
Fanfán Tulipán is all about playfulness, originality, groove – and instruments you’d never expect in jazz. Think Hammond melodeon, piano, saxophone, a driving rhythm section plus Estonian ziher kannel, a music box from a carillon museum, electrician’s conduits or even backpack zippers. The band’s sound, led by composer and singer Eliška Vidomus, blends jazz, funk, drum’n’bass and chanson into a style that refuses to be boxed in. Groovy bass lines, soaring melodies, intricate rhythms and colorful, imaginative arrangements make Fanfán’s music both surprising and irresistible. Together with Eliška, the line-up features saxophonist Vojtěch Polej, pianist Petr Svoboda, bassist Martin Gerla and drummer Šimon Hajdovský.
A Fanfán show is a journey: you might end up dancing, wandering through echo chambers, locking eyes with an owl, or soaking up the genius loci of post-industrial landscapes along the Elbe.
As music journalist Anna Marie Hradecká put it: “Live, the band is outstanding – their energy, wit and chemistry with the audience, perfectly crafted setlists and, above all, the music itself keep listeners constantly on the edge, lifted by waves of groove and swept into moments of deep melancholy.”
