Festival Spectaculare
Kiiōtō (UK) feat. Lou Rhodes (Lamb)
+ Monika Načeva
Lou Rhodes of Lamb Returns to Prague with Kiiōtō and New Album Black Salt.
Lou Rhodes’ unmistakable, richly grained voice – the voice that helped define the sound of Lamb – returns to Prague with her new project Kiiōtō. Together with pianist and producer Rohan Heath, she opens a more intimate and personal chapter, built around strong songs, space and the tension between voice and piano. At Spectaculare_14, Kiiōtō will present their new album Black Salt – dark, intimate and driven by fierce storytelling. The evening at Jazz Dock will open with Monika Načeva and her trio.
Kiiōtō came together at a point when both musicians felt they had begun to drift away from their own musical careers. After years with Lamb and four solo albums, Rhodes had turned her attention towards poetry, while Heath had already travelled a long path through British electronic music and pop. Their first songs emerged without any grand plan, and their 2024 debut As Dust We Rise revealed a new chemistry between Heath’s piano and Rhodes’ unmistakably textured voice. On Black Salt, they dig deeper. The album was forged through conflict, tension and the willingness to push one another beyond their comfort zones, while its stories move from narcissism and the grip of social media to urban violence, family roots and the loss of a loved one. The arrangements remain sparse and bold, giving piano, deep bass, subtle percussion and Rhodes’ voice room for every detail to register. The record also features musicians associated with Amy Winehouse, 4 Hero and Corinne Bailey Rae, alongside an impromptu guitar contribution from acclaimed film composer David Arnold.
The Czech side of the evening comes from Monika Načeva, who has spent more than three decades as one of the most uncompromising voices on the country’s alternative music scene. Across rock, electronics, experimentation and improvisation, poetry and a relentless search for the right expression have remained at the core of her work. At Spectaculare, Načeva will perform with her trio, bringing her own distinctive focus on voice, language and personal expression to an evening equally rooted in song and storytelling.
The concert takes place as part of the 14th edition of the multi-genre Spectaculare festival, unfolding across a range of Prague venues throughout March and April 2027.
