Iván Gutiérrez & Madera
Although Iván Gutiérrez’s roots are in New York and Bogotá, he settled in Prague many years ago. After his collaboration with Zuzana Navarová (Tres), he founded the group Madera, whose repertoire blends original and folk songs with strong influences from South American music. Madera was formed in 2003 when Iván Gutiérrez and Tadeáš Mesany met at Prague’s Duende bar and decided to create a joint repertoire. This became the foundation of their first album, recorded two years later with the support of several outstanding musicians. Today, the band’s mature and well-rehearsed core consists of double bass anchor Tadeáš Mesany, virtuoso accordionist Tomáš Görtler, master of flutes Robert Fischmann, creative force Iván Gutiérrez, and drummer David Landštof.
