Jacky Terrasson Trio (FR/USA)

Jacky Terrasson is a captivating pianist who can take his audience to the point of euphoria. Born in Berlin to an American mother and a French father, he grew up in Paris. He began playing piano at the age of five; after studying classical music, he turned to jazz and later attended Berklee College of Music. In 1993, he won the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition and began touring with Betty Carter. He settled in New York and signed with Blue Note Records. His recordings include the albums Jacky Terrasson, Reach, Alive, A Paris, Smile and the solo album Mirror.

He has collaborated with many renowned musicians, including Cassandra Wilson, Michael Brecker, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Dianne Reeves. Terrasson performs solo and in a trio at leading jazz festivals around the world. His distinctive style combines virtuosity and melodic sensitivity with inspiration from jazz pianists such as Bud Powell and Ahmad Jamal, as well as French composers Ravel, Fauré and Debussy. In 2015, he released Take This on Impulse!, followed a year later by Mother, recorded with trumpeter Stéphane Belmondo. In 2019, he returned to Blue Note with the album 53. In 2023, he founded his own label, Earth-Sounds, and recorded Moving On, which was released in 2024.
