Jan Smigmator - Birthday Jazz Night
One of the most prominent figures on the Czech jazz and swing scene, singer Jan Smigmator, is bringing his solo concert to one of the most prestigious jazz venues in the Czech Republic. And he couldn’t have chosen a more fitting date for his debut than his 41st birthday! The singer, music producer and long-standing presenter on Czech Radio – who was the first Czech jazz singer to perform a solo concert at the famous Carnegie Hall in New York – will present his exclusive jazz quartet in the intimate atmosphere of Jazz Dock. The quartet comprises Mikuláš Pokorný (piano), Tomáš Baroš (double bass), Marek Urbánek (drums) and Jan Kyncl (tenor saxophone), and will sing songs that have shaped his own musical world for many years.
The repertoire for the birthday evening will be drawn primarily from his latest album, *Here and Now*, on which the timeless elegance of the Great American Songbook meets a contemporary jazz sound. Alongside famous standards in new arrangements, the programme will also feature original compositions written by Smigmator in collaboration with organist and producer Ondřej Pivec and the American singer Kennedy. There will also be a look back at previous albums and a host of musical surprises. A unique club atmosphere, top-class musicians, swing, jazz, spontaneous musical moments and a birthday celebration that promises much more than just an ordinary concert.
