Jaromír Honzák Quintet – New CD Release

Tuesday 07/03/2023 from 20:00

Double bass player Jaromír Honzák, one of the key figures of the domestic jazz scene, winner of five Anděl awards for jazz album of the year and also a regular in the Animal Music catalog, is coming with a new studio album "Twenties". He recorded it again with his permanent band consisting of David Dorůžka, Vít Křišťan, Luboš Soukup and Martin Novák. "Twenties is the third album, recorded with the same cast, with musicians who know and understand me. His concept (rather just an intuitive one) was to give way to all the influences and stimuli on my musical journey - the newer ones, like the influence of medieval music and early polyphony, and the older ones, like my relationship with electric jazz, fusion and pop. At the same time, I wanted to air out and calm down my music a bit - instead of a tricky metro, simple melodies, instead of composed passages, free improvisation. But no revolution is happening, just another step on the way to find my music. All of this would not have been possible without my band, who made my often vague ideas sound beyond my expectations. "Vít Křišťan had a fundamental influence on the sound of the album with his refined concept of playing keyboard instruments and the use of electronic effects," says Jaromír Honzák about the album.
