NIKA + Osmosis Q
Jazzbit / Mladí ladí jazz 2024
NIKA (Veronika Boráková)
Singer, songwriter and composer, released her enchanting debut Flesh & Soul in spring of 2022. The twenty-two-year-old musician, this year a graduate of the Janáček Conservatory in composition, bases her work on distinctive takes on genres such as jazz, pop, folk and alternative. Her lyrics deal with personal relationships, the artifice of the world around us, the false appearance of perfection, themes of manipulation, hypocrisy and even physical and psychological violence. NIKA has been playing piano since the age of four and began writing her first songs at the age of six, influenced by rock, jazz fusion and classical music. Her backing band consists of drummer Jonáš Bjolek, pianist Pavel Duda and bassist Nicolas Gatto. For her album Flesh & Soul she won the Moravian-Silesian Art Award Jantar in the category of popular music. In 2023 she performed with her backing band at the Moravian-Silesian Jantar Awards Gala, at a solo concert at DK Poklad Ostrava-Poruba, and in July she also performed at the Colours of Ostrava festival.
