Jazbit / Mladí ladí jazz 2025 :Omasta + Wonder Brass Company

Jazbit / Mladí ladí jazz 2025
Omasta + Wonder Brass Company

Thursday 29/05/2025 from 21:00

Omasta aims to tread new pathways without leaving the existing routes behind. They thus combine jazz with influences from hip-hop and street culture, using a driven rhythm section, supported by piano, trumpet, saxophone and flute. Despite their short experience, the band has already performed in many Polish cities and abroad (Jazz Cafe - London, UK; Gent Jazz Festival - Ghent, Belgium), they also supported Slum Village. The members of Omasta are working hard on releasing their first record on Polish quality label Astigmatic Records.

Wonder Brass Company is a distinctive collective of talented musicians from the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory. They channel their creative drive into original compositions that blend jazz, funk, and rock, unified by rhythm, improvisation, clever arrangements, and virtuosic performance. This nine-piece band features a brass section consisting of flute, alto saxophone, two trumpets, and trombone, complemented by a rhythm section made up of guitar, keyboards, bass guitar, and drums. Bandleader and guitarist Jakub Krieger, keyboardist Jan Drábek, and bassist Jan Šesták explore the unconventional potential of this relatively standard setup through infectiously joyful, and at times even grotesque, compositions. Still, the final sound is shaped by the whole ensemble, with each member contributing their creative ideas through improvisation. You can hear all of this on their debut EP Jablko poznání ("The Apple of Knowledge"), which marked the group’s third anniversary. Jakub Doležal said about them on the Czech Radio Vltava’s program Jazz Morning: “This nine-member group specializes in original compositions in the spirit of modern fusion of jazz, funk, and rock. They are increasingly appearing on club and festival stages across the country. Perhaps this is proof that the Czech jazz scene is naturally evolving and rejuvenating.”
