Matteo Bortone ClarOscuro (IT)
Matteo Bortone is a frontman of an all-Italian trio featuring Enrico Zanisi on piano and Emanuele Maniscalco on drums. ClarOscuro is a summary of Bortone’s musical vision: an alternation of sounds aimed at creating diverse moods through contrasts, airy grooves and spaces, edgy songs and themes, long, complex tracks and short compositions. All this merges into a common denominator that enhances ambiguity, the most inward-looking, mysterious side of music, emphasizing timbres and collective blend rather than the solo inspirations of each musician.
The trio features Michaela Turcerová (saxophone), Petr Maceček (drums) and Štefan Szabó (guitar) and was created in 2017 on the Czechoslovak border. Their repertoire contains mainly originals, but also unique arrangements of jazz standards. During their existence, the trio has spread their music in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. “The concept of the trio ignores genre categorizing. The result is live and communicative music with a significant part of improvisation, but also with a clear purpose to create a unique atmosphere in each and every piece,”said Vilém Spilka, musician and artistic director of JazzFestBrno.
