Julian Hesse Quartet
The Julian Hesse Quartet unites four acclaimed jazz musicians from across Europe and the U.S. Led by German trumpeter Julian Hesse, the group explores lyrical, modern jazz with emotional depth. The lineup features Libor Šmoldas (Czech Republic) on guitar, Peter Cudek (Slovakia) on bass, and Jesse Simpson (USA) on drums—each bringing a distinct musical voice and strong improvisational skills. Hesse, a Fulbright scholar and versatile composer, blends tradition with innovation in his trumpet playing. Their music draws from hard bop, modal jazz, and European lyricism, rooted in strong ensemble dynamics. The quartet captivates with melodic clarity, rhythmic flexibility, and expressive compositions. Hesse’s past work includes the award-winning band BOUNCE and collaborations with Aaron Parks and Ari Hoenig. His 2021 trio album "Troubleshooter" earned critical praise and was longlisted for the German Record Critics' Award. Together, the quartet offers a fresh, cosmopolitan take on contemporary jazz.
