Basily Gipsy Band & Marius Preda (NLD)
A cimbalom at a jazz concert? Why not?! Basily Gipsy Band & Marius Preda challenge preconceptions of what gypsy jazz should sound like. Their music draws on the legacy of Django Reinhardt while blending it with traditional Hungarian Roma music, Balkan rhythms, and Spanish flamenco. The result is a thrilling mix full of drive, temperament, and untamed improvisation. A fusion like this is not something you experience every day! The band has toured worldwide—across Europe, the United States, Japan, and even Indonesia. They have shared the stage with Stéphane Grappelli, the violinist of the great master Django Reinhardt, and performed at private events for The Rolling Stones alongside guitarist Jeff Beck. A distinctive personality of the project is Marius Preda. The Romanian virtuoso, regarded as the world’s first jazz cimbalom player, pushes this traditional instrument into the realm of modern jazz. Close your eyes and let yourself be carried away by music you will remember for a long time.
