In his New York trio, leading Czech jazz guitarist Libor Šmoldas performs alongside a rhythm section of the highest international caliber. These two American greats—drummer Adam Nussbaum and bassist Jay Anderson—have shared the stage with musical legends such as Michael Brecker, Toots Thielemans, Maria Schneider, Bob Mintzer, Eliane Elias, Stan Getz, Mike Stern, John Scofield, John Abercrombie, Joe Lovano, Lee Konitz, Sonny Rollins, Frank Zappa, Tom Waits, and many other giants of the music world.

Šmoldas’s NYC Trio is far more than a one-off collaboration between a European artist and American stars. The band has been active for over a decade and has released three albums. The first, Dreamtime (2015), was recorded in New York and features intimate interpretations of jazz standards, as well as unique takes on songs by the Beatles, James Taylor, and music from The Godfather. The second album, On the Move (2016), delivers a rawer, bluesier sound that showcases the trio’s energy and cohesion as they interpret Šmoldas’s original compositions. Their latest release, Dusk, is also composed by Šmoldas and follows a clear concept—it guides listeners through the different phases of the day, from dawn to midnight.

At the concert, you can expect a selection of pieces from all three albums, enriched by spontaneous improvisations on jazz standards.
