Luboš Soukup Quartet
After many years of successful performance on the international stage and collaborations with top world musicians, saxofonist and composer Luboš Soukup returns with a purely Czech, multigenerational project. This new formation connects legends of the domestic jazz scene with fierce young talent, bringing original music that hovers on the borderline between traditional and modern jazz.
Luboš Soukup is a saxophonist, clarinetist, and composer spanning between Prague and Copenhagen. In Denmark, he received the prestigious Talent of the Year Award, for which he was nominated by Marilyn Mazur (Miles Davis's long-time percussionist). His albums have repeatedly won awards in jazz critics' polls. His most ambitious work to date is the suite Scandinavian Impressions (2024) for symphony orchestra and jazz ensemble. Jiří Levíček is a graduate of the University of North Texas. He brings the American school of jazz to the Czech scene in the best sense of the word. In addition to playing the piano, he dedicates himself to composing for large orchestras and leads the ensemble Stay in Tune. Petr Dvorský has been a fixture on the Czech scene since the 1980s. He performs with a vast number of musicians and is one of the most sought-after sidemen in the country. Jakub Švejnar is a progressive musician. He is active in ensembles such as Jungle Debris or Dust in the Groove, among many others. He represents the modern, experimental face of contemporary Czech drumming.
