Lucia Cadotsch AKI
Outstanding Voice of the European Jazz Scene
Multiple award-winning Swiss singer and producer Lucia Cadotsch has been redefining jazz since the international success of her 2016 album SPEAK LOW. A recipient of the German Jazz Prize and the Swiss Music Prize, she continues to push boundaries with her latest project AKI, released on Heartcore Records in 2023. Over the past 20 years, Cadotsch has explored a wide range of sounds—from stripped-down jazz standards to indie jazz-pop with LIUN & The Science Fiction Band. With AKI, she returns to a classic jazz quartet lineup, featuring some of today’s most distinctive instrumentalists, while still defying traditional genre lines. AKI is a powerful blend of jazz, art pop, and salon music—rich in atmosphere and driven by Cadotsch’s unmistakable voice: subtle, intense, and emotionally direct. The band operates as a creative collective, reimagining each other's compositions in a way that gives all members space to shine. The result is music full of soul, texture, and individuality. Cadotsch often draws inspiration from social themes and iconic female figures—from Medusa to Rosa Luxemburg—reflecting her experience as a bandleader in a male-dominated scene. Even the project name AKI, a non-binary name used for boys in Finland and girls in Japan, speaks to her interest in breaking down rigid categories—both in life and in music.
