Lukáš Oravec Quartet ft. Jerry Bergonzi
JAZZ OF FOUR CONTINENTS

Monday 27/11/2023 from 21:00

The great Slovak trumpeter Lukáš Oravec founded his quartet in 2012 and his qualities immediately attracted the attention of the jazz public. The band has given more than 200 club and festival performances across Europe, and the quartet won the main prize in the "Young Faces of Slovak Jazz" competition and the "performance" award for the quartet leader. During its existence, the band has released several highly acclaimed albums, and in 2021 they will release the album "Movin' Spirit", which won two awards for the best jazz album of the year (Radio Head Award and Esprit Award). The quartet's latest effort is this year's album in collaboration with the Moravian Philharmonic and American musicians Andy Middleton and Danny Grissett. In the past, they have also collaborated with many other world-class musicians (often Grammy award winners). They have included Aaron Goldberg, Rick Margitza, Vincent Herring, Bob Mintzer, Wayne Escoferry, Seamus Blake and Tony Lakatos, and this time they are joined by another great star of world jazz - American saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi.

Jerry Bergonzi is an internationally acclaimed jazz performer, composer, author and educator. He has been ranked by jazz critics as one of the 100 greatest saxophonists of all time and is the author of some of the world's most famous jazz etudes. In his youth, he rose to fame playing in Dave Brubeck's band in the 1970s. He has performed all over the world at all the major jazz festivals and in jazz halls with his own ensembles and with many jazz greats. His music is known for its innovation, mastery and honesty. His discography includes over 50 solo recordings, many of which have been released on the Blue Note or Columbia Records labels, and over 200 albums as a sideman. He has worked with such musicians as Joe Lovano, Dave Liebman, John Scofield, Mike Brecker, Bob Berg, Tom Harrell and Steve Grossman.

„Lukas Oravec is a wonderful young trumpet player who plays and writes with lots of fire and creativity. His music has a distinctive sound as does his playing. He and the musicians Lukas surrounds himself with are a force to be reckoned with. I think you will enjoy this wonderful music as well as hearing the band play live“ Bob Mintzer
