Ondřej Konrád & Gumbo

Ondřej Konrád & Gumbo

Monday 21/08/2023 from 21:00

After a longer break, the band Ondřej Konrád & Gumbo, formed at the turn of the 90s and the noughties, returns to the Jazz Dock scene, where it was a long-time regular on the program. Apart from domestic stages, the band has performed abroad (Germany, France, Belgium, Poland, Slovakia) and presented its work with the album At Least One Beauty of the World (Indies Happy Trials, 2006). The current line-up is composed of original members guitarist Josef Štěpánek and bassist Dan Eberle, alongside harmonica player and vocalist Ondřej Konrád, and newcomers Jan Steinsdörfer on keyboards and drummer Miloš Dvořáček, who was also briefly a member of Gumbo's early days.

Despite many years in Luboš Andršt's Blues Band with Petr Lipa, Binder - Konrád Blues Band, and the funky mini big band Šavle meče, one line of the musical path of the harmonica player and vocalist Ondřej Konrád led the way. The second line is through numerous collaborations with many leading Czech musicians and bands such as Jazz Q, Prague Choice, Dežo Ursíny, Wanastovi Vjecy, Druhá tráva, Ivan Hlas, and Vladimír Misik. He is also a member of the folk-rock Blues Session.  The two streams come together in the band Gumbo, named after the hearty soup of New Orleans cuisine: a thick soup made of various types of meat, sausages, vegetables, with a specific aroma of local herbs, appropriately spicy. Prague's Musical Gumbo incorporates blues, jazz, funk, rock, fusion, alternative country and more into its mix.
