Pavel Zlámal & PQ
A formation of progressive jazzmen established on the dynamic grounds of the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno, whose members are now scattered across the Czech Republic and Europe (Brno, Prague, Helsinki, Basel). Their strikingly original repertoire, straightforward and energetic interpretation, intense musical statement is reminiscent of their inspirations, The Bad Plus and John Zorn. In 2018, the quartet released its debut album Inevitable Rods (Championship Music), awarded 3rd place by the Czech Radio “Jazz Harvest 2018”. The album contains music composed by the leader of the band Pavel Zlámal, which imbues the recording with contemporary modern jazz. Certain inevitable overlaps beyond this framework generally point to Zlámal's untamed approach to music creation. The unorthodox and avant-garde tendencies were given more space on the second album (2CDs) Anchors & Hearts, which the band released at the beginning of 2020 in cooperation with Ma Records.
