Pavel Zlámal & PQ (CZ/BRA)

A formation of progressive jazzmen established on the dynamic ground of Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno, whose members are now scattered across the Czech Republic and Europe (Brno, Prague, Helsinki, Basel). The unique author's repertoire, straightforward and energetic interpretation, intense musical statement reminds of the inspirations as The Bad Plus or John Zorn e.g.. In 2018, the quartet released its debut album entitled “Inevitable Rods” (Championship Music), awarded by 3rd place in Czech Radio “Jazz Harvest 2018”. The album contains music composed by the leader of the band Pavel Zlámal, which make the recording more of a contemporary modern jazz. Certain inevitable overlaps beyond this framework generally point to Zlámal's untamed approach to music creation. The unorthodox and avant-garde tendencies were given more space on the second album (2CD) Anchors & Hearts, which the band released at the beginning of 2020 in cooperation with label Ma Records. The third album “UZURAMARU” was released 12.12.2025. Besides giving concerts in Czech rep. and Slovakia, the quartet performed at festivals in Poland, Wales, France, Israel e.g.
