Petr Dvorský Quartet - Tribute to Ray Brown

We invite you to an exceptional concert in which leading Czech double bassist Petr Dvorský pays tribute to the bass legend Ray Brown. He will perform a selected program made up of interpretations of Brown’s most famous pieces as well as key jazz standards that Ray popularized. Let yourself be carried away by the timeless sound of the double bass performed by one of our finest instrumentalists.

The core members of the band Petr Dvorský, Stanislav Macha and Jiří Slavíček are long-time bandmates and members of the debuting quartet The Four, which together with saxophonist Karel Růžička Jr. in the nineties recorded a number of successes and awards. The quartet has added great saxophonist Jan Kyncl, whose predatory and sophisticated improvisation adds an even more emotional charge to the whole ensemble. The new formation is a loose continuation of the 1990s period and offers a new programme of compositions by double bassist Petr Dvorský but also by other composers (Oscar Pettiford, Sam Jones, Karel Růžička Sr.) arranged for acoustic jazz quartet. The generational affinity of the musicians and their frequent collaboration in other projects create the premise of a unified musical language and extraordinary instrumental interplay.

This project can also be described as the premiere of bassist Petr Dvorský in the role of "band leader" and the capitalization of his rich experience from previous projects. Other notable projects and ensembles of Petr Dvorský include the Emil Viklický Trio, Concept Art Orchestra, and international collaborations with such stellar names as Mark Vinci, Ingrid Jensen, Randy Brecker, Walter Fischbacher and others.
