Sakobi

Sakobi

Saturday 06/06/2026 from 19:00

SAKOBI consists of Radek Zapadlo on saxophone, Vilém Spilka on double bass, and Martin Kleibl on drums. Radek Zapadlo has been a successful figure on the Czech jazz scene for a quarter of a century; he currently performs most frequently alongside Matej Benko and Ondřej Ruml, and plays in the Cotatcha Orchestra, the Vilém Spilka Quartet, and his own group, Four in Blue. After eight years with the Brno Philharmonic, Martin Kleibl now moves across a genre spectrum ranging from classical to pop; he plays in the OK Percussion duo with world-class marimbist Martin Opršál, accompanies singer Petr Bende, and is the driving force behind the Vilém Spilka Quartet. For the SAKOBI project, Vilém Spilka traded his primary instrument, the guitar, for the double bass, which he began playing during the COVID-19 pandemic. SAKOBI debuted with the album *Banzai!* in 2024 on Bivak Records.

At this concert, the trio will launch their second studio album, titled San, again released by Bivak Records. The album revolves around the number 3, or “san” in Japanese. There are 3 band members; 3 generations of musicians appear on the album, with 3 musicians representing each generation; and it features 3x3 tracks, the vast majority of which are original compositions. This generational diversity also reflects the stylistic breadth of the recording, which offers music ranging from swing to Americana to acoustic funk. The rising generation is represented by singer Géraldine Schnyder, cimbalom player Michal Grombiřík, and guitarist Josef Hanulík, while the legendary generation is represented by pianist Miroslav Hanák, violinist Jan Dalecký, and guitarist Milan Kašuba. Schnyder and Hanulík will also perform as guests of the band at this concert.

Radek Zapadlo – sax; Vilém Spilka – b; Martin Kleibl – dr, Géraldine Schnyder – voc; Josef Hanulík – g.
