Stuart McCallum (UK)

Saturday 12/09/2026 from 19:00

Guitarist, composer and producer Stuart McCallum will perform solo in the Czech Republic for the first time, presenting his new EP "A Quiet Gathering", released this spring on Edition Records. Audiences at Jazz Dock already know McCallum from his appearance with The Breath, while Czech listeners have also encountered him over the years through projects such as The Cinematic Orchestra, alongside Richard Spaven and with Slowly Rolling Camera. Across a career that moves fluidly between jazz, folk, ambient and contemporary production, McCallum has collaborated with artists including Jordan Rakei, Manu Delago, John Surman, Kenny Wheeler and Peter Gabriel.

With "A Quiet Gathering", McCallum reveals a particularly intimate side of his musical language. The five pieces, suspended between jazz, folk and ambient music, were conceived with a strong emphasis on spatial and immersive listening. Revisiting standards such as "Alice In Wonderland" and "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered", he strips the material back to its melodic essence, allowing melody, silence and atmosphere to take precedence over harmonic density. The result is music that feels fragile yet deeply focused, opening up a rich sonic landscape shaped as much by folk sensibility as by modern ambient textures.

At the core of McCallum’s work lies an ongoing search for a distinctive sound combined with a natural openness to new technologies. McCallum’s solo discography includes the acoustic EP series "Solitude" (Edition Records, 2018–2019), the intimate live recording "Vinyl Room Session" from 2022, and the album "Rain Is Coming".
