The „Bohemia After Dark“ Project (UK/CZ/UKR)

Wednesday 08/04/2020 from 22:00

CONCERT IS CANCELLED

This Prague-based international “boptet” focuses on authentic performances of both classics and neglected gems from the discographies of pioneering bebop drummer Kenny Clarke (1914-1985) and bassist Oscar Pettiford (1922-1960), covering the “golden age” of bebop in the 1940s through cool jazz to the hard bop of the mid-1950s. The project is named after Pettiford’s composition “Bohemia After Dark” and Kenny Clarke’s iconic album of the same name (Savoy, 1955), which launched the career of hard bop legend Cannonball Adderley. Other bop giants featured in the band’s repertoire include Charlie Christian, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, Fats Navarro, Tadd Dameron, Wardell Gray, Miles Davis, John Lewis, Horace Silver and, for the band’s “vocal edition”, the singers Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Carmen McRae and Annie Ross. Although the title refers to the “Café Bohemia” jazz club that had opened in New York that year, an association with evenings of great jazz in Bohemia’s capital city is hard to resist!

Andy Schofield – Alto saxophone;  Osian Roberts – Tenor saxophone; Martin Jůzl – tr; Alice Bauer – voc; Libor Šmoldas – g; Taras Voloschuk – b; Ben Hague – dr.
