Vojtěch Procházka Trio
The distinctive multi-genre pianist and composer Vojtěch Procházka returns to his jazz roots after a longer hiatus, during which he focused on other projects. Now, he's reviving the classic piano trio format. His inspiration comes from the greats of the past—such as Bud Powell, Erroll Garner, and Jaki Byard—as well as from contemporary innovators like Jason Moran, Ethan Iverson, and Sullivan Fortner. For this edition of his trio, he has invited double bassist Taras Vološčuk, his long-time collaborator of over 25 years, and dynamic young-generation drummer Marek Urbánek. This rhythm section also plays with him in the band Freetown CZ alongside saxophonist Luboš Soukup.
Vojtěch Procházka (b. 1981) is a pianist, composer, and improviser whose work spans jazz and free improvisation. He studied piano, composition, and North Indian classical music in Oslo, Paris, and Prague. As a co-founder of the acclaimed ensemble Vertigo, established in 2002, he has received three Czech Music Academy Awards (Zlatý Anděl). His collaborators include notable artists such as Harpreet Bansal, Sisa Feher (KHI), Michaela Antalová (Mikoo), Luboš Soukup (Freetown Quartet), Monika Načeva, and Lucie Páchová (Talaqpo). He is also active as a composer of film and theatre music (Handa Gote, Josef Tuka, Naivní divadlo Liberec, Divadlo Alfa Plzeň, among others) and has been creating live accompaniment for silent films for over twenty years. In addition, he performs in various improvisation-based projects (Krekso, PIO, ex-Bergljot) and plays harmonium in the wind ensemble FSKC Drancy. He teaches at the Jazz Department of HAMU in Prague and at New York University in Prague.
