JAZZ OF FOUR CONTINENTS

Keyboard wizard Scott Kinsey is a world-class improviser and music conceptualist. Widely known as one of the most capable of all jazz synthesists, Kinsey’s unique and original sounds continue to evolve. Scott has been privileged to work with many of the world’s great musicians including John McLaughlin, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Oz Noy, Bob Berg, Bill Evans and Seamus Blake—to name but a few. Kinsey initially made his mark with Tribal Tech (Scott Henderson, Gary Willis, Kirk Covington), considered among the most influential jazz fusion groups ever, recording and touring worldwide with the band for over 20 years. He has also been a key member of the powerful group Human Element (Matthew Garrison, Gary Novak, Arto Tunçboyaciyan), as well as the ARC Trio (Jimmy Haslip, Gergö Borlai) and Ego Mondo (Novak, Tim Lefevbre, Kokayi). As former musical director of the Zawinul Legacy Band, Kinsey is also one of the foremost interpreters of Joe Zawinul’s work with Weather Report and the Zawinul Syndicate. On We Speak Luniwaz, his Whirlwind Recordings debut, Scott brings his keyboard expertise to bear on re-imaginings of seven Zawinul compositions, plus one tune by Wayne Shorter and two impressionistic originals of a similar vibe. In 2016, Kinsey released the acclaimed Near Life Experience with an extensive roster of adventurous, like-minded collaborators. He debuted as a leader in 2007 with Kinesthetics, a mind-blowing excursion that marked Scott’s first major departure from the Tribal Tech era. Regarding We Speak Luniwaz, the former drummer of Weather Report, Peter Erskine claims: “Scott Kinsey’s realization of these tunes manages to not only pay tribute to the works of Zawinul and Shorter but also to mine the music for discoverable gold. His band plays the daylights out of these tunes. This album deserves your attention.” And iconic producer Bob Belden once said of Kinsey, “He has taken the language of the synthesizer to the highest level in our modern times, as he is the first generation of keyboardists who developed electronically as opposed to the acoustic-centric classic piano model.” Scott continues to push the envelope with We Speak Luniwaz.
